Davidson Garrett

Unrequited Love

You are my own Ionesco, living
nonsensically—-inside that smart head.
It’s a head I aim to seduce, fling
myself with sweet devotion, share your bed.
No bald soprano you, swift to defend
non sequiturs. Confident hair crowns your
Gallic skull, yet, your pensive eyes portend
cold feet fear. They exit the King—-Monsieur.
Submissive Jacque—-I implore you, submit
to me; unloose that rhinoceros skin
wrapped taut around your heart. I plead, commit
yourself to this mad, love-starved  Harlequin.
Brainy, darkly comic man, say these words:
“Let us be lovers.” Is that so absurd?
