Micah the Poet

Memorials in Movement

I praise the curve of my Mama’s hands

How they hold courage

Make peace more like freedom

I smirk when I catch myself moving at her youthful pace

She now moves slower

Sauntering

Savoring sunlight

I laugh when we share stories

Like old friends

Much more vulnerable than the stories she told me as a child

I meditate on our daily conversations

Right now

I build statutes in her honor

While she can still walk in the glory of her moments

Moments where she knows NOW that she is loved and will never be replaced

Her eulogy will only be an iteration of all the love we give her now

My Mama always said to the best gifts to give are gifts that last

So I give her potted flowers

I enjoy to watch them grow

Like memorials in movement

Like her.
