CHARLIE PARKER FESTIVAL

 

Now in its 20th year, A Gathering of the Tribes is proud to celebrate the birthday of Charlie Parker/Early Bird. When Bird was alive, existentialism, blues jazz, and abstract art was the talk of the town. Nowadays anarchy, Buddhism, free jazz installation and conceptual art prevails. We celebrate the past and the present/the 1950s/the year 2013.

 

Saturday August 17th- Walter Cotton celebration (memorial) w/Ishmael Reed 5-7PM.

 

Sunday August 18th- Richard Clements on piano with Murray Wall and special guest John Marshall trumpet perform 7-9PM.

 

Sunday August 25th – Poetry reading hosted by Chavisa Woods, with readers such as David Henderson, Yuko Otomo, Danny Shot, Steve Dalachinsky, and MANY more! 5-7PM

 

Saturday August 31th -A Summer Garden of Delight with Dance, Poetry, Music. 7-9PM.

Light Installation by David Hammons, Gerald Jackson and Lorenzo Pace.
