Happy Mother's Day
exhausted,
I watch you
Sleeping
In the car seat
ready to pounce
As soon as you wake.
It's 10 pm
I could be sleeping
But trolling an ex's Facebook page
Or envying happily married couples
Is all that I want to do.
And sleep.
I want to
crawl into the car seat next to you
And soothe you
Before the first cry
Emerges
Hera,
Goddess mama
Every night I dream of
Dreaming
And pray no screaming
I wonder how on earth anyone
Could ever resent or even hate
Their mother.
If your mother
Split herself open
And then nurtured you
Even a little
She did more than
Most will ever do for you
So at least get her some flowers
Or a goddamn box of chocolates.
